VAGINA: THE 'ZINE

Editor Hillary-Anne Crosby

"Why Defining Rape Matters"

"What does it matter if a frivolous millionaire or celebrity makes insensitive or ignorant comments, casually equating rape with losing to competition or consenting to an awkward security procedure? With every misuse of the word, a sinister consequence looms darker: there are people out there who do seek to undo and lighten the definition of rape for inherently sexist reasons."

"What the Hell Is Going on With Women in Movies This Summer?"

"I am in the movie theater line, and I am barfing at what I see. I love action movies, fantasy and sci-fi films, movies based on comic books, comedies. But as a woman who both takes care of business and kicks ass, I hate that I can’t find a single summer movie that’s relatable."

About VAGINA: THE 'ZINE: With its quarterly publications, Vagina provides a space for women to share their creative work with the public. The zine features a unique variety of opinions, passions, and observations from our contributors, whether they have a vagina or not.

WEAVE MAGAZINE

Editor Laura E. Davis

"Time and Space"

""The desert maneuvers mysteriously. Some rocks here are called Sailing Stones. Unexplained by science, these roaming boulders slide in lines across the valley floor, leaving eerie, lengthy furrows in the dirt. Trails can abruptly change direction or shape. Sailing Stones even weave around their motionless, ordinary brothers. Since the Stones’ travels haven’t been directly observed, researchers implemented a tagging program. Baffled by the phenomenon and without explanation for spontaneous motion, scientists proposed the factors needed for mobility of these supposed-to-be stationary subjects: smooth conditions, an initiating force. These boulders wander nomadically, refusing to anchor. They reject weighty expectations."

THE RED CLAY REVIEW

Editor Javy Gwaltney, 2013 Issue

"The Mugging"

"On top of the indignity of having some pompous teenager with an unidentified

weapon in his pocket rifling through my purse, it is now starting to rain. I glance

up at the sky, purple clouds rolling through the black night. The neon flicker of the

Sunoco sign buzzes behind me. This man-child tormentor is making a disgusted

face at the contents of my bag – it doesn’t look as though he likes what he sees."
